On October 18, 2020, I watched Digimon Adventure Last Evolution Kizuna—on Blu-Ray and DVD—with my little brother. After seeing it had released on October 6, 2020—after months of delay due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic—I had to purchase it to see how the original Digimon Adventure story finally ends, closing the book on twenty years of stories by looking back on why Digimon Adventure was so special—nostalgia—before acknowledging that the characters and the fans can’t stay kids forever.

Released in the year 2000, Digimon: The Movie was a bold, innovate masterpiece—being made from three different Digimon movies—that features all the major characters from Digimon Adventure and 02 with a plot that spans over eight years.

Starring Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things, this amazing movie has little to no resemblance to other Sherlock Holmes stories other than the family name. It’s very smart for attempting to be its own thing and allowing Millie Bobby Brown to run the show—even if the plot got somewhat convoluted as a result of this wonky character-driven approach.

Getting the full context on Baam’s transformation into Viole was well-received, and learning what happened to Leo-Ro and Quant—while unexpected—was also a hilarious reprieve.

This arc made me realize how well-crafted these past few arcs were into making Ja Wangnan the perfect foil to Viole—the character who will remind him of the Baam he used to be. Ja Wangnan’s character development throughout The Prince of Zahard made him worthy of being the secondary protagonist.

While the rules to the latest test were kind-of complicated to follow, I did enjoy the message behind the test: Teamwork! The basis of the test is for the other participants—like Ja Wangnan—to conquer rooms and gain allies before Viole could defeat the Ranker and steal Yeon’s room.

On September 4, 2020, I started and finished reading Tower of God Volume 2: The Prince of Zahard’s third story arc: “Bath”. The story arc centered on giving everyone bath and rest before the next test. We’re given more time to know the new characters during this arc and the politics involved with Viole’s status as FUG, a Slayer dedicated to killing Zahard. Associating with Viole would brand the rest of the candidates, which was a similar situation to when everyone discovered Baam was an Irregular during Volume 1.

On September 4, 2020, I started and finished Tower of God’s Volume 2: The Prince of Zahard’s second story arc: “The Strongest Regular”. Initially, I found investing in new characters kind-of difficult, but knowing Baam—going by Jue Viole Grace—was in the new group helped a lot. This arc was fascinating for introducing us to this new version of Baam, who likely went through a dark phase after Rachel’s betrayal. The subverting of audience’s expectations was strong in this arc.

On October 9, 2020, I started and finished reading My Hero Academia Volume 25: “Tomura Shigaraki: Origin”. I had such a great time reading this manga book after catching up with Tower of God Webtoon, that I decided to binge-read the rest of My Hero Academia’s latest chapters currently out after this manga book. With 288 chapters total out at time of this review’s publication—meaning I had 42 manga chapters to read—the reading challenge didn’t take too long.
