Final Fantasy 7 Remake Video Game Review

May 18, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Video Game Review. Written by Aaron Ngo

This classic video game revival was a long time coming, but FF7 Remake had finally arrived in April 2020. I purchased the digital copy during that weekend and casually played throughout the Quarantine month. My experience with the original video game was pretty outstanding to say the least, but this remake heightened everything—the characters, plots, graphics, combat, and world-building—to grander levels.

The God of High School: Volume 2.5: Story of Tae-Jin: "Story of Tae-Jin Arc" (Episodes 113 through 118) Webtoon Review

May 17, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

The God of High School “Story of Tae-Jin Arc” (Episodes 113 through 118) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

This was a short arc—only six episodes—but it had a decent backstory that tied into the present day. The “Story of Tae-Jin Arc”, also known as Volume 2.5: Story of Tae-Jin, gave us greater insight into Tae-Jin’s background with his original squadron, the Re-Taekwondo Force and their last mission to stop a potential nuke in North Korea.

The God of High School: Volume 2: The National Competition: "Nationals Arc" (Episodes 42 through 112) Webtoon Review

The God of High School “Nationals Arc” (episodes 42 through 112) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The God of High School broke its power scaling—in fabulous DBZ fashion—during the “Nationals Arc”, also known as Volume 2: The National Competition. The world-building, the concept of GP (“God Power”), the Judges, The Six, and Jin Mo-Ri’s background / motives were explained and explored during this arc.

Here’s also a quick synopsis on G.O.H. for those who don’t know: The series is drawn and written by Park Yong-Je. The God of High School started in 2011 and it is still an ongoing series centered around a boy named Jin Mo-Ri entering the God of High School, a world martial arts tournament that will grant the winner a wish, no questions asked.

Calamity Book Review

May 09, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Calamity Book Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

Calamity is the final book in Brandon Sanderson’s superhero trilogy. After the events of the first two books, David Charleston is ready to end the war between Epics and non-Epics that Calamity—an Epic himself and not just a life-changing event—started. In this final installment of the series, David decides to forgo his “killing Epics” mindset in order to save Prof, who had succumbed to the darkness. Prof is the main antagonist of the novel, and David’s willing to do anything to save his mentor / friend, even if it’s just easier to kill him.

Dangerous Lies Netflix Original Movie Review

May 09, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Dangerous Lies Movie Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

I decided to watch this Netflix Original out of boredom and found myself… confused that a movie this poorly constructed actually exists. I cannot start with what the movie is about, but not because for spoilers, because the plot doesn’t make sense. Let’s start with the opening scene and move awkwardly from there.

The God of High School: Volume 1: A Match With Gods: "Introduction Arc" (Episodes 1 through 4) Webtoon Review

May 09, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

The God of High School “Introduction Arc” (episodes 1 through 4) Webtoon Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The God of High School is my first Webtoon experience. Until I started doing research for a friend’s writing, I didn’t even know the Webtoon genre existed. I was also hunting for new material to absorb and heard this series was similar to Dragon Ball Z, so that was enough to convince me. After reading the first arc, which consisted of four episodes, I have decided to invest and have not regretted it. I’m currently on the “Tournament Preliminaries Arc”, so I’ll keep y’all posted on these reviews.

Marvel's Jessica Jones Netflix Original Season Three Review

May 04, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Marvel’s Jessica Jones Season Three Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

It took me a year or so and a 2020 pandemic, but I forced myself to watch the final season—thirteen episodes—of Jessica Jones. Season three had a lot of work to do considering how uneven season two was. It was also the final season to air out of all the Netflix Marvel series, so it was also the ending to a small universe.

Firefight Book Review

May 04, 2020 by Aaron Ngo

Firefight Book Review. Written by Aaron Ngo.

The second novel of The Reckoners series didn’t suffer the “boring middle” issue that most trilogies experience. Taking place after Steelheart’s death, David Charleston and the Reckoners were summoned to Babylon Restored, formerly known as Manhattan, by its ruler Regalia, an Epic with water-based abilities. She summoned them by sending other low-level Epics to cause havoc in Newcago.
